Foster Program
It takes a very special person to become a Foster parent. Whether it’s a litter of two-week old kittens or a neglected hound dog who is nervous around people, many animals need extra love and attention so they can become ready for adoption.
If you are interested in fostering one of the pets in our care, please fill out our online foster application or contact our Foster Director at eclaridge@angelsofassisi.org.
Fostering is an opportunity to care for an animal that’s not yet ready for adoption. It’s an alternative for animal lovers who can’t make a long-term commitment, but still want to help rescue animals.
Fostering is a truly rewarding experience.
Angels of Assisi provides all medical care at our Community Pet Clinic plus the basic needs of each foster care pet including food, bowls, crate, and more.
What is Foster Care?
All kinds of people! We match the perfect foster care pet to your individual needs. Whether you work or stay at home, have a small amount of time or want to make a full-time commitment, we have a pet that needs your help. Fostering lets you make a difference in an animal’s life. We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals, 21 or older, who live within 30 miles of our Roanoke, Virginia shelter. Is that you?
Before you bring a foster animal home, consult with your veterinarian to make sure your own pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations. You may wish to ask your veterinarian if your pets need any additional vaccinations.
Who is eligible to become foster parents?
Why is the foster program so important?
Angels of Assisi regularly rescues animals that would be euthanized due to a lack of space at other shelters that destroy pets for population control, or a special medical, or age-related issue. As a foster parent, you are helping an animal in need and you’re also providing the added space needed to bring another animal to the shelter— that’s saving another life!
